Journey to the Centre of the Earth
Where science meets pure imagination: Jules Verne's timeless classic that continues to inspire generations of dreamers.
In a small house in Hamburg's historic district, where Axel, a rather shy young man, works with his uncle, the irascible Professor Lidenbrock, a geologist and mineralogist, whose ward, the charming Graüben, he is in love with, the order of things is suddenly disturbed.
In an old manuscript, Lidenbrock finds a cryptogram. Arne Saknussemm, a famous 16th-century Icelandic sage, reveals in it that, through the chimney of the Sneffels crater, an extinct volcano in Iceland, he reached the centre of the Earth!
Lidenbrock immediately gets excited and sets off with Axel to Iceland, where, accompanied by the guide Hans, as phlegmatic as his master is impetuous, they plunge into the mysterious depths of the volcano… In describing the prodigious adventures that follow, Jules Verne perhaps reached the peak of his talent.
