The Overcoat

Akaky Akakievich lives as if he doesn't exist. A humble and solitary civil servant, he spends his days copying documents in a Saint Petersburg office, ignored and ridiculed by his colleagues. No one notices him. No one imagines that, behind that unremarkable figure, there is a man capable of dreaming. When his old overcoat no longer protects him from the relentless cold, Akaky is forced to save everything he can to buy a new one. For months, he gives up the small comforts of his already simple life and places all his hopes in that object. For him, the overcoat will be much more than a piece of clothing: it will be the possibility of becoming someone. And, for a brief moment, the impossible happens. Akaky is finally seen, respected, and invited to belong to the world of others. Until one night changes the course of his existence, exposing the fragility of the human condition.
