This book takes us on a journey through the Cabo Espichel area, exploring the region's
mycological heritage. The mushrooms found in the northern part of the cape
are showcased in a vast collection of photographs taken during the rainy season
over several years. But it doesn't just show them. It tells us about their origin,
classification, structure, morphology, nutrition, reproduction, and importance in
ecosystems.
It also gives us a glimpse into slime moulds, their reproduction, and
organization. Despite their name, they are not actually moulds. They are fascinating
organisms from the Protista kingdom, which look like tiny mushrooms and are found
in the same environments as most fungi, forming part of the same ecosystems.
