Amarillo, begins in New Orleans: Weekly needs to leave town, separating from John Blacksad, who prefers to stay and look for work. John accidentally meets a wealthy Texan who offers him a simple, well-paying job! The detective accepts, but at a gas station, the car entrusted to him is stolen by Chad Lowell and Abe Greenberg—two Beat Generation writers trying to reach Amarillo, Texas. Soon, a fight between the two rivals turns tragic: Chad, pushed to the limit, shoots Abe, who dies instantly. Forced to flee, Chad finds refuge in a circus. John then begins a pursuit across the American roads of New Mexico, Colorado, Texas, and Illinois.

Blacksad is a cult series whose main protagonist is a cat moving in an anthropomorphic universe, with the action set in the United States in the 1950s, in an atmosphere that evokes film noir and American literature. With stunning drawings – and sublime colours – by Juanjo Guarnido, Blacksad's strength also lies in the quality of its stories, written by Juan Diaz Canales.
