This is the story of a sort of Portuguese Faust, who traded what he believed in for anything that satisfied his ambition. André Ventura was a hustler. The media persona he created was born on CMTV as a football commentator. In his adolescence, he converted to Catholicism, to the point of becoming a religious fundamentalist. After gaining television visibility, he knew how to use it to serve his ambition for notoriety.
He was with the PSD and it was as a PSD candidate that he discovered there was a populist and xenophobic electoral market waiting for someone to represent it loudly. Thus Chega was born.
